PIANO'S ABYSS is a vertical and progressive immersion within the "abyss" of the piano, an exploration of the expressive soul of the instrument through electronic synthesis, towards the discovery of an evocative and mysterious world that is exclusively constituted by the drone of the piano.

The vibrations of the strings, the instrument's resonances, the mechanical noises of the pedals and the hammers are electronically processed, twisted and warped until they are oceans away from their original sound, metamorphosing in textures rich in rhythmical and dynamic evolutions, in inexplicable and undecipherable drones, in vortexes and exhalations that seem to emerge from the darkness of our inner depths.

A special care was devoted to the spectral analysis, the resonances and the possible superimpositions of the frequencies of the sounds chosen as starting points for the sonic manipulations. In the performance - in order to individuate most intuitively the right path to follow - the musical form chosen is mostly based on improvisation with the use of graphical scores.

PIANO'S ABYSS takes the listener to hitherto unexplored depths, within seas alive with shadows and lights in constant transformation. A sonically visionary journey into the piano and into ourselves, in search of those arcane vibrations pulsating in dark abysses, enticing us with all their seductiveness.

PIANO'S ABYSS is the first chapter of a series of albums dedicated to unconventional timbre experimentation, giving birth to what is almost a whole new experimental genre: "piano drone music”. The artistic, compositional and technical aspects of the album will be illustrated by Angelina Yershova during her workshop "Composing while Improvising - Sound and Space" @ META.MORF Festival in Trondheim (Norway).
